The startup Professe is at the origin of an innovative technology: a vision sensor inspired by the operation of the human eye.
“Our sensor, instead of acquiring images one after the other like a conventional camera, just like the human eye, will only acquire information that changes. For example, the movement of the hands. This makes it possible to reduce the amount of data processed in an extraordinary way. and have an acquisition ten thousand times greater than a conventional image sensor. We have applied this principle in the world of mobile telephony to improve image quality and correct one of the major problems in photography: motion blur”, explains Lucas Verre, founder of Prophesee, a guest at Tech&Co this Monday, June 6. February.
A strategic partnership with Qualcomm
Specifically, “if something moves during the exposure time, that movement generates motion blur. The edges will not be sharp. Our sensor does not have this problem. We have independent and intelligent pixels that focus the information that changes”, explains Lucas Verre. . With its sensors, Prophesee intends to invest in the smartphone market. Also, during Barcelona Mobile World Congress, which took place from Monday, February 27 to Thursday, March 2, 2023, the French company formalized a partnership with American founder Qualcomm. A strategic alliance aimed at integrating Prophesee’s technology in the future processors of the American giant.
“They are in 60% of high-end mobile phones and are installed in almost all manufacturers. They are essential. Having this alliance with them is very important to us. Thanks to Qualcomm, all mobile phone manufacturers will be able to have access to an integrated solution with our sensor, our fusion software and Qualcomm’s processing platform”, says Lucas Verre. According to the latter, the first smartphones equipped with this revolutionary technology should be on the market starting next year.
