This was to be a first for Netflix. Last weekend, the American platform embarked on the broadcast of live programs, in this case the event show by comedian Chris Rock.
A year after the famous slap that Will Smith gave him, he therefore returned to this episode with his scathing humor. But many customers were simply deprived of this event, especially in France, where the broadcast, scheduled for the middle of the night, never took place.
As some users indicate, the famous button that was going to be displayed to launch the live broadcast never appeared.
Contacted by Tech&Co, Netflix France actually acknowledges an error and explains it as a subtitle problem. Since no French subtitles were planned, the presence of English text caused a conflict with Netflix’s French interfaces.
Clearly, users who used Netflix’s French interface (ie the vast majority of customers in France) did not see the “live stream” button. Those whose interface was in English, regardless of their geolocation, were able to watch the show.
Netflix ensures that the Chris Rock show will be available in its original version with French subtitles by the end of the week. As for the direct, it will return, even in France, but the platform will take care this time that the programs are available.
