Winamp launches its solution to fairly compensate artists

The Llama Group, owner of Winamp, intends to relaunch the free multimedia player to turn it into a platform designed to more fairly remunerate the contents of musical artists.

Llama Group has announced the future deployment of a new version of Winamp, this iconic free media player from the 90s that allows you to play music in digital format, which it owns. Can artists who are not allowed by streaming to make a decent living from music be fairly remunerated?

Because if the streaming revolution orchestrated by Spotify, Deezer or even Amazon Music has allowed artists to reach audiences that were previously inaccessible to them, their income level remains low for most of them.

A direct link between fans and artists.

Likewise, the new Winamp aims to be a solution to this need for balanced compensation, leaving space for fans who wish to be closer to the artist. In fact, for the user, this new iteration of Winamp is based on a 100% free model that gathers their songs, their podcasts or their radios in one place… This space, called “fan zone”, allows users to sign up for exclusive content deals offered by your favorite artists who you can provide direct financial support to.

For the latter, Winamp offers a complete tool that allows them, among other things, to manage all their sources of income, create personal subscriptions, distribute titles on streaming platforms, recover income from retransmissions or even create musical NFTs. The idea is to create “income directly between the artist and his fan”, insists Alexandre Saboundjian. Winamp’s global launch will take place on March 15, with the platform opening up to artists, before access to fans around the world starting April 15.
