Can artificial intelligence replace photographers and designers? This is the question that we can ask ourselves when we discover the productions of Midjourney, an artificial intelligence that allows us to create images from textual descriptions. And the new version of the software tends to demonstrate the great evolutions of the tool.
Nick St Pierre, an American graphic designer, revealed on Twitter the photos he was able to generate thanks to Midjourney. Groups of 1960s-style women, a Vietnamese market, or even a table laden with Korean dishes: all the images appear to have been taken by a real camera, although some backgrounds that include crowds still need to be perfected.
Precise application for a perfect result
To obtain these amazing images, Nick St Pierre used what are called “prompts”, that is, a series of precise and thoughtful words, to obtain the most satisfying result. For example, to get these shots of a young woman, the designer asked Midjourney for “a street style shot of a young woman in a red Gucci jacket and blue Gucci shirt, shot wide in natural light in Soho, shot with an Agfa Vista 200 film, in 4K”.
Another example with this interior that looks like something out of a decoration magazine. Note that for some examples, Nick St Pierre compared the images generated by the same ad, first against version 4 of Midjourney and then against the new version. Both results are very realistic, but they are even more so with this fifth version of artificial intelligence.
Proof of this is that the artificial intelligence that generates images will still be able to evolve further. Some internet users have even dubbed themselves “AI trainers” by providing turnkey replicas for the best results in Midjourney or DALL-E.
