The self-service scooter will soon be just a memory on the streets of Paris, after the result of the vote held in the capital on Sunday. On September 1, 2023, the operators – who spared no effort before the election – will have to put their fleet in order. So it may be time to gear up individually to make sure you can move around with ease.
Weight, possibilities, autonomy… Tech&Co has reviewed the main essential points when choosing the ideal scooter for each one.

UrbanGlide Ride 62s
A featherweight for those who need to do multimodal transport. The Ride 62s folds up easily and weighs just 7.3kg. Easy to transport, the scooter can reach 25 km/h and support up to 100 kg. However, who says small size also says small possibilities.
It has a range of only 15 km, but it recharges very quickly (3 hours), and it won’t be the most powerful to place accelerations (or face slightly difficult slopes). With wheels that are only 6.5 inches in diameter, it won’t be the most stable and shake-proof. But it is ideal for short distances in urban areas and can withstand splashes. Small size, small weight and low price.
Xiaomi Mi Essential Electric Scooter
It is undoubtedly one of the best value for money on the market. Xiaomi has taken over much of the sales with powerful and versatile products at often reasonable prices. The Mi Electric Scooter Essential is a bestseller for its lightness thanks to the resistant aluminum alloy frame (12 kg), its correct autonomy (20 km) and its maximum speed below the authorized limit (20 km/h).
It can easily climb hills and also recharges while driving thanks to its kinetic energy recovery technology. Its strong point is also folding in 3 seconds with a single movement to become compact and easy to transport.
The Mi Essential sports quite comfortable wheels (8.5 inches in diameter). Its trump card is also the multifunction control screen that provides precise information on speed and driving. The Mi Home application allows you to know the status of the battery, update the on-board software and check your driving statistics.
Niu KQi2 Pro
A monster of power. The KQi2 Pro has a maximum possible speed of 25 km/h, a range of 40 km and the possibility of loading up to 100 kg. Equipped with a 365 Wh lithium battery and 10-inch tubeless inflatable wheels that absorb shock better (and puncture less frequently), above all, it allows you to tackle all the slopes without blinking an eye.
It’s not too bulky and benefits from fairly wide handlebars for a good stance and an enjoyable ride. Note that it has brake lights, an LED headlight that carries up to 20m, electronic drum brakes, but also a mechanical buzzer and resists rain well (IP54 certification). The scooter folds up, but it’s not a featherweight (18.5kg). Also count 6-7 hours to fully charge.
Acer ES 5 series
Long-lasting autonomy for this foray by Acer, a manufacturer of computing devices, into the market for electric scooters. The ES Series 5 advertises up to 65km on a single charge for a fairly robust yet stylish frame, which can travel up to 25km/h (three speed modes on offer). The rear suspension provides more stability on all types of roads. Front electronic brake and rear disc brake provide maximum stopping power without compromise.
The scooter has a bright screen with a display of speed, battery level and multiple data, a buzzer and a control button to accelerate. The Acer eScooter companion app allows you to monitor the battery status, autonomy, but also to lock or unlock the scooter.
Ninebot Segway P65E Scooter
The Rolls of electric scooters and a heavyweight across the board. The Ninebot Segway Kickscooter P65E weighs 28 kg and can support up to 120 kg, but above all it offers a range of 65 km. This does not prevent it from offering a fairly fast charge for its huge battery (it allows about 4 hours to reach 100%).
But the strength of the Kickscooter P65E is its ability to overcome all surfaces and all coatings thanks to its rather robust “SegPower Cross Season” tires (10.5 inches in diameter), also capable of withstanding all weather conditions. Its power also allows it to easily tackle slopes of up to 22%.
The electric scooter has integrated rear and front turn signals, as well as brake lights. Its dual-piston disc brakes at the front and electronic disc brakes at the rear provide smooth braking.
The scooter can be locked or unlocked via NFC on the LED dashboard by placing your smartphone on it, but also via Bluetooth or by entering a code on the screen. It also offers a USB-C port to charge your smartphone while you drive.
