While Twitter seems to be pedaling on grits, Facebook is jubilant. At the beginning of March, Facebook confirmed to the specialized bulletin platforms who was considering the possibility of developing a social network based on the model of Twitter. A possibility that has arisen since the internal prototypes are appearing, Social Networks Today.
The researcher Alessandro Paluzzi has been sharing images of a possible social network initially known under the code name P92 since the end of March. The project is now called Barcelona.
What would result as a complete app is advertised as an “Instagram for your thoughts.” The concept appears to be similar to the “Channels” feature offered by Instagram, which was announced on February 23. This feature allows certain highly followed accounts to broadcast messages to their followers. It seems like a one-way message to inform your fans about your news and events.
Stand out from existing alternatives
In order for the Meta applications (Facebook and Instagram parent company) to remain connected to each other, users will identify themselves in Barcelona with their Instagram codes. For those who do not have an Instagram account, it will be possible to create a new username.
Some of the information about the future application already describes its contours. The length of posts will be limited to 500 characters and each thread can contain a maximum of 100 posts. At the moment, a release date has not been announced, but the project appears to be taking shape quickly as the group carried out a second wave of layoffs in early March.
Long shot for Meta when there are already many alternatives to Twitter. But Meta could be a step ahead thanks to its size and its large number of users on Instagram.
