To gain credibility on TikTok, influencers are featured on fake podcasts

To back up their message, influencers trick users by imitating fake interviews, especially on TikTok. This trend has given rise to parodies.

Social networks are also a terrain for fakes. And to give themselves prominence, some of them put themselves on stage in front of a microphone, in the middle of an interview. The only detail: no one asks them the slightest question. On TikTok, Internet users see fake podcasts appear, assembled from scratch during a few seconds of discussion with a phantom interlocutor.

The heart of this trend is illustrated by a simple tool: the professional microphone behind which these influencers express themselves, typical of podcasts that have become, in recent years, now a very popular medium. It immediately gives the video a professional look that is more likely to give users trust.

Fake videos and questionable advice

The “professional” aspect of the content makes it possible to give a superficial seriousness to banal or even absurd conversations, like Victoria Banxxx, a porn star, who certifies in front of the microphone that “to please her husband” 6 to 7 times a day. It was essential for the proper functioning of a couple.

A certain community has enthusiastically embraced the trend, noting the DNA of the specialized media: the “hustle bros” (hustle culture = work culture), these users who offer advice of all kinds to get rich. They also have a reputation for offering advice directly or indirectly related to dubious methods, including scams.

In this same perspective, if some use tricks to make unconventional speeches, some try to see it as a business. This is the case of V Shred, a fitness influencer, who takes the opportunity to promote his own applications, reports DNA. The fitness influencer has also been especially criticized for these deceptive staging.

authority argument

The frame of reference of these podcasts, often followed by millions of people, gives the value of “authoritative argument” to the messages of these influencers.

“There is this new phenomenon on TikTok where people are posting fake podcast snippets and it’s funny because they consider podcasts to be a more serious medium,” this user laughs on Twitter. On TikTok, many netizens have also had fun with cheating, making fun of it with humor.

“Am I the only one who realizes that half the podcasts on this social network are fake? ‘Just for you. I didn’t even know they existed, I thought they were real podcasts. Am I being stupid?’ ask this user.

From this trend a wave of parody videos was born where users, to make fun of, and always behind a microphone, have absurd conversations with themselves. This is the case of this user, who only evokes endless phrases and no real message, showing himself dressed in three different outfits.

“If you want to give the impression that you know everything about social media, use the podcast format. – Oh yeah, I see. I hadn’t seen it like that, I totally agree, it’s fun. But it works. – Yes.” Because look, it’s not even a real podcast, I’m talking to myself and you get the impression that I know everything about everything,” a cameraman laughs.

On April 25, the keyword “fake podcast,” for “fake podcast,” was shared more than 5.2 million times on TikTok. The original word “podcast” testifies to the success of the format, with 81.5 billion shares.
