A new MacBook Pro, a new MacBook Air or the new Vision Pro headphones. Apple introduced a host of new products on June 5 during the keynote of the Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 (WWDC 2023). An event during which Apple often announces new software features for AirPods.
Two years ago, it was “Conversation Boost” and deeper integration of the Find My app. The previous year, Apple had notably introduced spatial audio. This year, the American company does it again and has announced three new improvements for the second generation AirPods Pro through a free software update scheduled for this fall.
Improve audio experience
First, adaptive audio, a new option that combines active noise reduction mode and Transparency mode. Specifically, this function will allow AirPods Pro to change from one mode to another, dynamically, depending on the sound environment in which the user is in order to adjust the sound level accordingly.
AirPods will be able to identify and let through important noises, for example a horn or the sound of a speaker’s voice, by turning on Transparency mode, then active noise reduction to reduce the most annoying sounds. A feature very similar to what we find in Sony and Samsung headphones.
The second feature, Custom Volume, uses machine learning to anticipate the user’s desired sound level. Apple has leaked some details about this mode. Finally, the addition of conversation detection provides the ability to suppress background noise while emphasizing voices during a discussion.
Other AirPods models are not left out
Separately, Apple also introduced the new “Mute or Unmute” feature for 1st and 2nd generation AirPods Pro, 3rd generation AirPods and AirPods Max. The latter offers the user the possibility of interrupting or reactivating the sound of the microphone by pressing the earpiece rod, for the 1st and 2nd generation AirPods Pro and the 3rd generation AirPods, or the “digital crown”. of the AirPods Max headphones.
For the rest, the automatic failover has been improved, which allows audio to be passed from AirPods to an iPhone, iPad or Mac, so that it can be carried out more quickly, the brand indicated to the apple. These new features will be available this fall during the free AirPods software update.
