“A good deal,” according to the head of Apple about the new Vision Pro headphones. Tim Cook was a guest on the American television show Good Morning America on June 7, in which he defended the price of the product: $3,500, according to reports 01net.
The journalist asked Tim Cook if everyone could afford to buy such a device. To this the head of Apple replied:
This price would justify the very advanced technology that the helmet contains. Apple presents it as “the first space computer” with twelve cameras, five sensors and six microphones, OLED screens.
It includes all the technologies developed by Apple, in particular the M2 and R1 chips. The latter allows for a comfortable AR/VR experience by limiting the feeling of nausea.
“Great value for the price”
But does such advanced technology justify such a price? Researchers have calculated the costs of each component to find out if the price was high. According to them, the Vision Pro costs $1509 to make. For example, $300 for an LED screen, $160 for photo sensors, or even $110 for mounting.
Please note that these data do not take into account the costs of the research and development part. According to Tim Cook, it is “excellent value for money”.
The Vision Pro will be available for sale only in the United States, at the beginning of the year 2024. The headset is similar to a first test using such advanced technologies in terms of mixed reality. It remains to be seen if in the future the brand will be able to develop helmets at more affordable prices.
