Pope Francis will be fired on Friday

Pope Francis, hospitalized in Rome since July 7 following abdominal surgery, will be released from hospital on Friday morning, the Vatican announced on Thursday.

On the advice of the medical team and after a “regular” clinical evolution, the 86-year-old Argentine Jesuit will leave the Gemelli outpatient clinic “tomorrow morning, Friday, June 16,” said Matteo, director of the Holy See’s news agency. Bruni, in a statement.

On June 7, the pope underwent three-hour abdominal surgery under general anesthesia, which went without a hitch.

In March, Francisco was admitted to Gemelli Hospital for a few days with bronchitis.

The pope’s health has been the subject of debate since he made it clear that he would be willing to step down if illness prevented him from doing his job, as happened to his predecessor, Benedict XVI, in 2013.

The pope suffered from cataracts, sciatica and osteoarthritis in his right knee, requiring him to use a wheelchair on many occasions.

After the intestinal operation on July 4, 2021, he responded to speculation: “I’m still alive, some prelates wanted me to die, they were already preparing the conclave (to choose a successor)”.
