German court convicts two people for selling cancer drug

A German court in the state of Bavaria has sentenced two people from the city of Inglostadt to prison for promising a “miracle cure” for cancer to people in the last stages of the disease.

A 68-year-old man, who supplied the alleged drug, was sentenced to six years and nine months in prison, while a 57-year-old naturopath, who prescribed the product, was sentenced to three years for participating in the scam.

Still, the sentences fell short of the demands of prosecutors, who sought between three years and ten months to eight years in prison.

The two scammers promoted the BG-Mun remedy claiming that it cured cancer quickly. According to the judge, patients pay about 6,000 euros for the drug, even forgoing the conventional treatment they underwent.

The court also ordered the confiscation of thousands of euros so that fraudsters would not have access to the money resulting from the alleged panacea.

The proceedings lasted two years and were the longest trial by the Ingolstadt court.
