“Airspace control means detected three air targets over the Black Sea approaching the Russian border. To identify the three targets and prevent the violation of the Russian state border, two Su-27 fighter jets of anti-aircraft forces,” the ministry said in a statement, quoted by Efe .
The same information adds that the Russian planes identified the air targets as an RC-135 spy plane and two British Typhoon fighters.
“With the approach of the Russian fighters, the foreign planes turned around and moved away from the state border of Russia,” the Russian military leadership declared, after which the Russian planes returned to their base.
“The violation of the state border of the Russian Federation was avoided,” the same entity stressed, specifying that the flight of the Russian fighters was conducted “in strict accordance with international standards for the use of airspace over neutral waters.”
The Ministry of Defense also said that no commercial air routes were crossed during the flight, nor was there a dangerous approach from British aircraft.
