Kiev accuses Russia of burying flood victims in Kherson in mass graves

A Ukrainian army report accuses Russia of burying victims of the floods caused by the destruction of the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station in Kherson province in mass graves.

“The command of the Russian occupation forces made the decision to bury the dead in mass graves without taking DNA samples and without placing any sign on the grave site”took note of a military report published Wednesday evening by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to the document, authorities in the Russian-controlled area sent municipal officials to search for the dead in homes and infrastructure affected by the flood.

“As a result of search and recovery work, more than 60 bodies were found on June 24 and 25 of this year alone,” the Ukrainian army revealed.

The Kiev government estimates the number of deaths from flooding in the Russian-occupied part of Kherson province at several hundred.

Ukrainian authorities and human rights groups accuse Moscow of abandoning the local population.

Ukraine has accused Russia of blowing up the dam at the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station to prevent a possible advance of the Ukrainian army.
