Ukraine’s candidacy for the European Union (EU) is one of the priorities of the Spanish presidency, according to a joint statement by the Ukrainian president and the Spanish Prime Minister, who is visiting Kiev this Saturday.
“Spain reiterates its support for Ukraine’s candidacy for the EU, which will be one of the priorities of its presidency,” read a joint statement.
According to the same note, Spain also supports “the strengthening of the association” between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Ukraine, including through “the creation of a NATO-Ukraine council.”
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, thanked the President of the Spanish Government for his support and “symbolic visit” to kyiv, when Spain begins its presidency of the European Union.
During his visit to kyiv, the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced that the country will send four more Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 and a military conflict has been taking place ever since.
