Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Bulgaria this Thursday for an official visit, the first visit to Sofia since assuming the position of head of state.
According to the Bulgarian government, it is a one-day visit and is mainly intended to expedite the delivery of Soviet-made light weapons and ammunition as part of the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian armed forces against the Russian invading forces in Ukraine.

The invitation for this official visit was sent to Zelensky after Bulgaria’s new coalition government, considered “pro-Western”, took office exactly one month ago.
Sofia’s new executive had already proposed in June to increase aid to Ukraine.
The first information about Zelensky’s visit to Bulgaria was published last Tuesday by the Sofia news portal 24chasa, citing diplomatic sources.
Meanwhile, Bulgarian Defense Minister Todor Tagadev regretted Wednesday the publication of details about the Ukrainian head of state’s visit to Sofia, which had been kept “secret” for security reasons.
