The UK will supply more than 70 combat vehicles and more ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces and launch a medical rehabilitation center for soldiers, the British government announced on Wednesday.
Combat and logistics vehicles, including combat reconnaissance vehicles (CVRT), are intended to transport munitions and equipment and evacuate wounded soldiers, the executive branch said in a statement.
In addition, the new support package also includes thousands of ammunition for previously donated Challenger 2 tanks and an enhanced technical support program providing parts and maintenance training with a further £50 million (€58 million out of £57 million at the current exchange rate).
The British government also unveiled a new project through NATO to create a medical rehabilitation center for injured soldiers to help them recover and return to combat.
This center will treat the most seriously injured, help them adapt to prostheses and learn to walk again, and accelerate the recovery of less seriously injured so they can quickly return to combat.
The program will be funded through NATO’s Comprehensive Relief Package for Ukraine and will be supported by rehabilitation experts from across the Alliance, he said.
The announcement coincides with the two-day NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania, ending this Wednesday, which discussed new forms of aid to Ukraine to defend against the Russian military invasion that started in February 2022.
