The US State Department announced Wednesday that it was the target of a computer attack (cyberattack), less than a month after a group of computer pirates (‘hackers’) Russians broke into several US government agencies.
In a statement, this department reports that “abnormal activity” has been detected in its systems, on the basis of which “immediate measures” have been taken.
This situation comes after a group of Russian “hackers” managed to infiltrate several government agencies on June 15, as reported by the Infrastructure Security and Cybersecurity Agency (CISA).
Authorship of the attack was attributed to the group ‘CL0P’, also known as ‘TA505’. At the time, there was no indication that the “hackers” had acted in concert with the Russian government, an official said at the time.
The largest attack of this type against the US government in recent years occurred in 2019, when approximately 18,000 agencies and services fell victim to massive piracy, including by Russian agents, through the use of the SolarWinds computer program.
