Climate activists block runways at two airports in Germany

Activists from the Last Generation group blocked runways at airports in Hamburg and Düsseldorf, Germany, on Thursday in protest at the lack of action to tackle climate change.

Hamburg Airport, in the north of Germany, confirmed through its account on the social network Twitter that the departure of the planes had to be interrupted.

Last Generation announced, also via Twitter, this morning that it had blocked the airports of Hamburg and Düsseldorf, in the west of the country.

“We protest the government’s lack of planning and enforcement of the Climate Crisis Act,” the group said.

In November, these activists blocked Berlin airport for two hours.

The group, whose most common actions are blocking streets, is calling for better measures to protect the climate, a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour on motorways and a nine-euro ticket for all trains in Germany.
