“Netanyahu has been taken to Sheba Medical Center. He is in good condition and is undergoing a medical evaluation,” a statement from the prime minister’s office said, without providing further details.
Sheba Medical Center is the largest hospital in Israel and is located in the city of Ramat Gan, near Tel Aviv.
The 73-year-old prime minister was taken to hospital from his home in Caesarea after warning people close to him that he was not feeling well, Israeli media reported.
His personal doctor, Tzvi Berkovitz, told the Channel 12 television station that the prime minister’s condition was “good and stable”.
The prime minister reportedly lost consciousness at home and hit his head when he fell, but arrived fully conscious at the hospital and walked unassisted, according to Israeli media, citing medical sources.
His son Avner Netanyahu is apparently in hospital and his wife Sara Netanyahu is on the way.
In October, Netanyahu was admitted to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem after feeling unwell while praying in a synagogue.
He was discharged the following morning, after undergoing tests and spending the night under observation.
Netanyahu, leader of the right-wing Likud party, is Israel’s longest-serving prime minister – 15 years.
Together with its ultra-Orthodox and ultra-nationalist allies, it won last November’s elections after serving several terms in power: 1996-1999 and 2009-2021.
Netanyahu has not formally named an interim prime minister since beginning his second term in 2009.
In the past, when he traveled abroad or underwent short planned medical procedures, he appointed a close minister to replace him temporarily.
