Elon Musk is considering changing Twitter’s name and logo

Multimillionaire entrepreneur and Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Saturday he was considering changing the brand name and logo of that social network, known for its little blue bird.

“Soon we will say goodbye to the Twitter brand and gradually all birds,” Elon Musk wrote, before suggesting that the new logo will be an “X.”

Musk posted a video from a Twitter user to his Twitter profile, with the current Twitter logo, a blue bird, replaced by a flashing X.

“If a good enough X logo is posted tonight, we’ll post it globally tomorrow,” he added.

After buying Twitter in October 2022 for $44 billion (€39 billion), Elon Musk changed the company’s name to “X Corp” in April 2023, and regularly talks about turning the social network into a versatile financial services app, similar to WeChat in China.

Elon Musk responded on Twitter to a question from a user who asked if Twitter would be accessible from the x.com address: “Of course”.

X.com was the name and website of the online bank founded by the entrepreneur that later became PayPal’s online payment service.

If the name change goes ahead, it would come at a difficult time for Twitter, with Elon Musk laying off about half of the team and whose ad revenues fell by half.
