Zaporijia nuclear power plant loses power, blackout threatens

The Zaporijia Nuclear Power Plant, currently occupied by the Russians, lost power in its main transmission line and had to resort to a reserve line, which if disconnected would lead to a blackout.

According to a statement from Energoatom, the state-owned company that manages Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, the main transmission line has a voltage of 750 kilovolts (kV) and the reserve line has a voltage of 350 kV.

The Ukrainian company said that if this reserve line is disconnected, there could be a blackout at the switchboard.

The company reiterates that occupation of the plant by personnel who lack proper training or responsibility in nuclear safety is a constant threat that could lead to disaster.

“Urgent action by the international community is required. The nuclear terrorism of the Russian Federation must be stopped immediately and the invaders must leave the territory of the station and the satellite city of Energodar,” the Ukrainian company said in the statement.
