The Eiffel Tower was evacuated this Saturday after “a bomb alert,” advances the French newspaper Le Parisien, citing a police source.
The evacuation is “a precautionary measure”, and for now the origin of the alert is unknown.
Visitors were evacuated from the three floors and from the monument square shortly after 1:30 p.m. (12:30 p.m. Lisbon time).
The mine trap squad and the police searched the area, including a restaurant located on one of the floors. The authorities are still on the scene.
“It is a standard procedure in this type of situation, which however is rare,” a spokeswoman was quoted as saying by the AFP news agency.
