Russian security forces prevented a Ukrainian sabotage group from entering the Bryansk border area on Tuesday, the region’s governor said.
“There were no casualties,” Alexander Bogomaz said on social media, though he added that industrial buildings and a car were damaged. The information now revealed has not been confirmed by independent sources.
According to The Guardian, Bogomaz said Russian troops managed to stop the group of Ukrainians near the town of Kurkovichi, about 2 miles from the border with Ukraine.
Russian regions bordering Ukraine have reported repeated attacks by Kiev forces, including occasional border raids by armed pro-Ukrainian militants.
In June, Russia’s Belgorod region was the target of the largest incursion since the start of the offensive in Ukraine, which has been underway since February 24, 2022. The attack used drones, raising doubts about the strength of Russia’s defenses at the border.
Ukraine has denied responsibility for the attacks, blaming Russian partisan groups opposed to President Vladimir Putin.
