Leader of the Wagner group reappears on video and hints that he has returned to Africa

The leader of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgueni Prigozhin, reappeared on Monday for the first time in a video, since the failed assault on the Kremlin, on June 24, and hinted that he had returned to Africa.

“Wagner’s group makes Russia even greater on all continents and makes Africa even freer,” Prigozhin said in a recording broadcast on Telegram channels linked to the Russian militia.

In the video, Prigozhin does not explicitly say that he is in Africa, but appears in a landscape that resembles the African savannah and claims that the temperature around him is 50 degrees.

“Justice and happiness for the African peoples”, proclaims the Wagnerian leader in the message, where he guarantees that his paramilitary group is the “nightmare” of the Islamic State, Al Qaeda “and other bandits”.

The mercenary also ensures that the group continues to recruit “real heroes” and “fulfilling the assigned tasks.”

However, he assures that “when the homeland asks for it”, elements of the group, which was recently Russia’s main attack force in Ukraine, will once again create a “national unity” to defend the country’s interests.

In addition, he added that the group continues its activities in Africa and Belarus, a country to which it moved after the failed armed rebellion against the Kremlin in June.
