Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday thanked the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) for their efforts to find a peaceful solution to the war in Ukraine, for which the West is responsible.
“We are grateful to our BRICS colleagues who actively participate in the intention to put an end to this situation and to reach a just solution by peaceful means,” the Russian head of state said during his intervention via video conference at the Johannesburg summit, quoted by EFE news agency.
Putin is the main absentee from the summit because he decided not to fly to Johannesburg for fear of being arrested, following the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, after he again blamed the West for the war in the country. .
“I want to emphasize that precisely the desire to maintain hegemony at the global level was the cause of the serious crisis in Ukraine,” he said, explaining that “first, with the help of Western countries, an anti-constitutional coup d’état was carried out ”. état was carried out and then a war against the people who did not agree with this coup began, a brutal war of extermination that lasted eight years.

On the possibility of the BRICS being expanded to more countries, Putin agreed and said he will do everything possible to comply with the decisions that emerged from the Johannesburg summit.
“We intend to do everything we can to effectively promote compliance with all decisions made at this summit, including those referring to its expansion,” he said, concluding that Russia’s presidency of the BRICS will be targeted are on strengthening multilateralism to ensure a development of global fairness and security.
Russia, as the host of the next BRICS summit, will celebrate more than 200 activities and events in ten cities, including the summit itself, which will take place in October 2024 in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan.
