Trump Posts Photo Taken In Prison, Insinuates ‘Election Interference’

Former United States President Donald Trump used the social network X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to publish, for the first time since 2021, the historic photograph taken a few hours earlier in an Atlanta prison.

The former head of state has not published a message on what was his preferred social network since January 2021, when Twitter suspended the politician’s account indefinitely, a few days after the attack on the US Congress, committed by his followers.

Trump posted the photo and wrote: “Election interference. Never give up!”, along with a link to his website.

The former head of state’s account was reinstated in November, shortly after Elon Musk took control of the company.

The message represents Trump’s return to what was long the most important communication platform, used to dominate his rivals in the 2016 primaries and command the news cycle for years.

Trump, who is aiming to run for the White House in 2024, has 86.5 million supporters, beating his rivals for the nomination in the Republican primary.

On Thursday, the former president turned himself in to authorities in the state of Georgia, where he is charged with attempting to falsify the results of the 2020 election, in the fourth criminal charge he has faced.

Trump went to the Fulton prison, in the US city of Atlanta, to take his fingerprints and said photograph, which will appear in the court case.

This was the first time that a former US president took a photograph in a police context, the so-called ‘mugshot’.

The Republican tycoon was released 20 minutes later on bail of $200,000 (185,000 euros).

Bail conditions prohibit you from intimidating co-defendants, witnesses or victims in the case, including on social media. The Republican has a history of attacking prosecutors leading cases against him, including the district attorney in charge of this case, Fani Willis.

This indictment is the fourth criminal case against Trump since March, when he became the first former president in US history to be impeached.
