According to the Associated Press (AP) agency, Austrian authorities found 53 people on Saturday in the city of Linz in a small truck believed to be on its way to Germany.
According to Austrian police, quoted by the AP, four men were in the cabin of the vehicle at the time it was stopped by authorities, with one of the occupants having tried to flee without success.
According to the AP, the fugitive, as well as the other three occupants of the cabin, were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking.
According to the police, Austrian authorities found 53 people, including children, most of whom came from Turkey, in the cargo area of the small truck.
Three of the suspected human trafficking suspects are of Turkish nationality and are between the ages of 18 and 22, but the identity of the fourth man has yet to be established.
According to the AP, police have not yet provided details about the migrants’ entire journey, but authorities have found many people in vehicles along the route from the Balkans or Austria in recent years.
