Russia announced on Tuesday that it had shot down Ukrainian drones in areas near Moscow and the Kremlin-controlled Crimean peninsula.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defense systems “destroyed drones attempting to launch an attack on Moscow”, adding on social media that “there were no casualties”.
As Moscow’s offensive in Ukraine continues into its 19th month, Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory have become almost daily.
The defense ministry said one drone flew over the Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow, while a second was destroyed northwest of the capital, over the Istrinsky district of the Moscow region. A third was also destroyed in the Tver region, northwest of the capital.
Sobyanin assured that there was damage in the area “due to falling debris” and that emergency services were “working to mitigate the impact”.
The drone intercepted in the Zavidovo area, in the Tver region, “flew towards Moscow,” he added, stating that “there were no casualties or damage.”
Last week, Sobyanin acknowledged that the capital was subject to almost daily terrorist attacks by the Ukrainian authorities. Russia’s defense ministry later said it also shot down a drone over Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula annexed by Ukraine in 2014.
“An unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed on the territory of the Republic of Crimea by air defense,” the ministry said in Telegram.
Ukraine targets Crimea during the Russian offensive, which was launched in February last year.
