Romanian president says Russian attacks are taking place “very close” to the border

The recent attacks in southern Ukraine took place “very close” to the Romanian border, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said, following Sunday’s crash of Russian drones in the Danube, which Kiev said had hit Romanian soil.

“We had attacks […] which were recorded 800 meters from our border. Very, very close”, declared Klaus Iohannis, during a press conference with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.

On Monday, Ukraine’s neighbor and NATO member Romania “categorically” denied kyiv’s allegations that Russian explosive drones had crashed on Romanian soil overnight on Sunday.

The Defense Ministry stated that it was “monitoring the situation in real time” and “at no time” did the Russian attacks on infrastructure on the Danube, close to its border, “generate any direct military threat to the territory or territorial waters of Romania.” , according to an official statement from Bucharest.

Kiev authorities said Russian ‘drones’ loaded with explosives crashed overnight in Romania in a new wave of attacks on ports in southern Ukraine.

“According to information from the Ukrainian border guards, during a Russian attack on the port area [ucraniano] of Izmail, the ‘Shahed’ [‘drones’de fabrico iraniano] Russians crashed and exploded last night in Romanian territory [domingo]”, said the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oleg Nikolenko, through the social network Facebook.

Subsequently, and after Bucharest’s denial, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, declared that the Kiev government had “photographic evidence” that the Russian ‘drones’ fell on Romanian territory.
