A former soldier suspected of terrorism who escaped from prison has been arrested

A former soldier accused of terrorism who escaped from a London prison where he was awaiting trial was captured on Saturday, British police said.

Daniel Abed Khalife was on the run for four days until an intensive search caught him in Chiswick, west London.

Khalife escaped from Wandsworth prison on Wednesday under a food truck. The escape sparked a wave of criticism, with political opponents accusing the ruling conservative party of incompetence.

Khalife, 21, is accused of planting fake bombs at a military base and breaching the British Official Secrets Act by gathering information “that could be useful to an enemy”.

He was discharged from the British Army following his arrest earlier this year and had denied the allegations. His trial is scheduled for November.

London’s counter-terrorism police offered a reward of 20,000 pounds (about 23,000 euros) for information leading to his arrest.
