It’s been a pretty tough week for the American president. First, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced on Tuesday that he had issued instructions to launch a formal investigation into Joe Biden’s impeachment, avoiding the representatives’ vote on the measure, in contradiction with what he publicly defended.
Now, Biden’s son Hunter has been charged with making false statements and illegally possessing a firearm, paving the way for a trial and the possibility of prison time.
The offenses date back to 2018, when Hunter was a drug addict and stated on gun purchase forms that he did not use drugs. An agreement with the court was considered certain, but the judge overturned it, claiming immunity could not be granted because Hunter could face other charges.
Joe Biden’s son remains a tool for Republicans to try to denigrate the president or create a false equivalency regarding Donald Trump. So it was in the 2020 election campaign, when Trump’s agents, in reference to Hunter’s laptop left in a store, spread the theory that Joe Biden, while vice president, was pressuring Kiev to protect son.
And now, despite being unable to provide evidence that the president committed any crime, Republicans are moving forward with an investigation impeachmentafter showing a House committee in July photos of Hunter and a prostitute engaged in sex acts — no one knows why.
