The EU sends almost 500 million euros to Romania, Italy and Turkey after the disasters

The European Union (EU) made available this Monday an amount of 454.8 million euros from a budget reserve to help Romania, Italy and Turkey after natural disasters seriously affected these three countries.

The Council of the EU has allocated, from the Solidarity and Emergency Aid Reserve included in its 2023 budget to the operational budget line of the EU Solidarity Fund, an amount of €33.9 million to provide assistance to Romania after a severe and widespread drought, with three main peaks, at the end of March, mid-April and in July and August 2022, according to a statement.

The €20.9 million allocated to Italy comes after heavy rains that caused river and flash floods that affected the central regions of the country in September 2022.

Turkey will receive the lion’s share – 400 million – due to the large earthquakes that hit the Kahramanmaras and Hatay regions last February.
