Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that Russia is committing a “genocide” with the kidnapping of Ukrainian children, and called for solidarity before the UN General Assembly in New York.
“In Russia they teach these children to hate Ukraine and to cut all ties with their families. And this is clearly genocide,” he said.
Zelensky said Ukraine has evidence of kidnappings by Russia “in the occupied territories of Ukraine and then deported.” “The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for these crimes and we are trying to get these children back home,” he stated.
In his intervention, Zelensky argued that Russia “has no right to nuclear weapons”, accusing Moscow of promoting global terrorism.
During his first personal participation at a UN General Assembly, Zelensky accused Moscow of blackmailing with nuclear weapons, as well as food and energy.
The Ukrainian leader recalled that Russia is a frequent aggressor, recalled the military interventions in Moldova and Georgia and called on the international community to unite and counter this expansionist ambition.
Zelensky announced the holding of a peace summit, inviting “all those who will not tolerate any aggression.”
