The Kremlin announced on Tuesday that the American Abrams tanks supplied to Ukraine will not change the outcome of Moscow’s offensive. The Russian presidency added that tanks will “burn” in Ukraine.
Kiev announced on Monday that it has received Abrams tanks from the US, strengthening the Ukrainian counter-offensive aimed at breaking through heavily fortified Russian defense lines.
“None of this can in any way affect the essence of the special military operation and its outcome,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said at a news conference.
“There is no silver bullet and no other type of weapon that can change the balance of power on the battlefield,” he reflected.
Peskov echoed a Kremlin argument about Western weapons, saying: “They will burn too.”
Ukraine has asked for more Western weapons, including long-range missiles, to help break Russian positions and launch attacks deep into Russian-controlled territory.
Washington promised to deliver 31 Abrams tanks to Kiev early this year, part of the more than $43 billion in security aid the US had promised since the start of the conflict.
Russia believes that successive arms deliveries to Ukraine are prolonging the conflict.
