Yerevan recorded the arrival of 42,500 Armenian refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh

The Armenian authorities reported this Wednesday the arrival of 42,500 refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh, a third of the population of the separatist region where Azerbaijan carried out a military offensive last week.

On Sunday, Baku opened the only highway connecting the enclave with Armenia, four days after separatists surrendered and a ceasefire deal placed Nagorno-Karabakh under Azerbaijani control.

According to Azerbaijani government sources, a total of 192 Azeri soldiers were killed and 511 wounded during Azerbaijan’s offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh last week.

The Executive Health Ministry in Baku also added that one Azerbaijani civilian was killed during the hostilities.

Nagorno-Karabakh authorities previously said that at least 200 Armenians, including ten civilians, were killed and more than 400 wounded in the fighting.

As for the explosion, on Monday, at a gas station near the enclave’s capital, Stepanakert, where people were queuing to refuel their cars before leaving for Armenia, the latest data from Yerevan indicate that at least 68 people died.

Another 290 people were injured and a total of 105 were considered missing as of Tuesday night, according to Nagorno-Karabakh Ombudsman Gegham Stepanyan.

Information on the number of deaths has not yet been verified by independent entities.
