Maritime Police rescue 15 people in Greece

The Maritime Police rescued 15 migrants who were adrift off the island of Lesbos, in Greece, it was announced this Saturday.

“The elements of the Maritime Police who were on mission in Greece, within the framework of the ‘POSEIDON’ operation, of the FRONTEX Agency, were rescued yesterday [sexta-feira]”On September 29, 15 migrants were left adrift off the island of Lesvos,” he said in a statement.

The police detected a boat adrift, with 15 men on board, including a minor, with signs of dehydration and fatigue.

The migrants were rescued and transported to the port of Petra, where the Greek authorities and a team from the Frontex agency were present.

The Maritime Police is integrated into the ‘POSEIDON’ operation to control and monitor the Greek and external maritime borders of the European Union.
