Iran has enough material to produce a nuclear bomb in less than two weeks, according to a US Department of Defense report, which emphasizes that the country is currently unlikely to have a nuclear weapons program.
“Iran poses a persistent threat. It is estimated that the country does not currently have a nuclear weapons program, but has the capacity to produce sufficient material for a nuclear weapon in less than two weeks,” concluded the report “Counter Weapons Strategy of Mass Destruction 2023”.
The Pentagon also said Iran is not meeting its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention, including submitting a full declaration on its chemical weapons production facilities.
The report also classifies North Korea, as well as extremist organizations, as “persistent threats.”
