Russian authorities deemed members of the Ukrainian military leadership as “terrorists” for attacks on Russian territory “since April 2022,” a month after the Kremlin-ordered invasion of Ukraine.
The Russian Investigative Committee indicated on Tuesday that the head of the Ukrainian intelligence service, Kiril Budanov, is involved; Air Force Commander Nikolau Oleshchuk; the Commander of the Navy, Alexei Neizhapapa and the Commander of the Drone Regiment (unmanned aerial vehicles), Sergei Burdeniuk.
The Russian organization noted in a post on the social network Telegram that “cases related to terrorist attacks with unmanned aerial vehicles against civilian infrastructure on Russian territory are still under investigation.”
Russia’s official body says investigations have gathered “sufficient evidence” about the role of those involved “in more than a hundred attacks” between April 2022 and September 2023.
Moscow insists that the names of the Ukrainian officials will appear on the list of persons wanted by Russia.
“The Investigative Committee continues to work on registering terrorist attacks and identifying other people involved in committing these crimes,” the same statement said, indicating that drone strikes by Ukraine on Russian territory have increased in recent months.
British intelligence recently indicated that Russian air defense systems are experiencing “difficulties” in detecting and destroying “drones” launched by Ukraine that hit “important” Russian military infrastructure.
