The pilot of the plane that flew over the Mississippi region in the United States of America this Saturday morning and threatened to crash into a supermarket has been arrested, authorities revealed.
According to authorities, the man who allegedly stole the plane could be charged with robbery and terroristic threats.
In a press conference, Tupelo Police Chief John Quaka revealed that the now-detained Tupelo Aviation employee did not have a pilot’s license, but only “some instruction.”
Quaka said the man stole the plane, took off and then called the emergency number and threatened to crash into a supermarket.
However, the plane landed safely and without causing any injuries, they announced.
“The situation has been resolved and no one was injured,” Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Twitter post.
Reeves thanked the police officers who helped monitor the plane, which had been flying over the region since 05:00 (local time).
In a Facebook post, the Tupelo police department revealed that it had been notified at 5:00 am (local time) that a plane was flying over the city with some 38,000 inhabitants and the pilot was threatening to crash into a supermarket.
“The pilot contacted emergency services and threatened to intentionally crash into a WalMart. [nome da cadeia de supermercados]”, said the police without, however, giving the motivations of the pilot with whom he managed to speak.
After this, the policemen evacuated the supermarket and a nearby gas station.
