According to a Frontex bulletin released this Thursday, the Central Mediterranean continues to be the main migratory route and has increased by 96% compared to the first eight months of last year (114,625 attempts to cross the borders of EU countries irregularly). .
The Western Mediterranean region recorded an increase of 14% compared to 2022 (9447). Despite the higher number of irregular entry attempts, with 70,548, there was a 19% reduction in crossings through the Western Balkan region.
Frontex officers also rescued a total of 32,008 people between January and August this year.
