Zelensky compares Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to attacks on Israelis

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday compared Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the Islamic Resistance Movement’s (Hamas) attacks against Israel, calling them “the same evil.”

In a videoconference intervention at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meeting, Zelensky emphasized that “the essence is the same,” although the intentions of those launching the attacks “may be different.”

“There is only one difference: a terrorist organization has attacked Israel, here it is a terrorist state that has attacked Ukraine,” the Ukrainian president said.

“We see the same blood in the streets. The same cars marked by bullets. The same bodies of tortured people,” Zelensky said, emphasizing that “no one will ever forget what the terrorists did in Israel.”

“Thousands of rockets against peaceful cities. Shots at people on the road, in their cars. Men and women, children. No one was spared. The streets are covered in blood. Hostages. The terrorists themselves gave the world images of abuse, proud of them,” he reported.

Zelenskiy said Israeli journalists who were in places like Bucha now claim to have witnessed what Ukraine saw after the invasion.

On the other hand, the Ukrainian president directly accused Iran of its involvement in the two conflicts and condemned the Iranian authorities for supporting Russia with the sale of ‘drones’ (unmanned aerial vehicles) and the attacks on Israel, despite Tehran’s denied any participation.

“We see who in the world is trying to replace the power of international law with the horror of blood and catastrophe. We see who, consciously investing in terror, is destroying the lives of various peoples, from Belarus to Mali. We see. And we must take action,” Zelensky said.

The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, dubbed Operation ‘Al-Aqsa Storm’, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.

In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it dubbed “Iron Swords”.

The attacks and military response left hundreds dead and more than a thousand injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas.
