Target of cyber attack, Air Europa asks customers to cancel credit cards

Airline Air Europa was the target of a cyber attack in the early hours of Tuesday and is now asking customers to cancel the credit cards they used to pay for their trips as a precaution, despite saying the situation is “under control”.

According to the newspaper El País, several customers of the airline received an email from the company warning that Air Europa had suffered a computer attack, which may have given hackers access to banking data, such as the number of different cards, expiry dates and their CVV security code.

“The extracted data only related to the cards themselves and not to those of customers. In no case did cybercriminals gain access to other Air Europa databases or obtain any other form of personal information of customers,” the company assures El País.

However, Air Europa announced that the situation of cyber attacks “on its systems is already under control and that none of its customers have suffered fraud on their credit cards”, writes the Spanish newspaper, also reporting that the airline has improved its IT protected company systems. .

Still, Air Europa’s email advised customers who may have been affected by the cyberattack to contact their bank to cancel the credit card they used to pay with the airline.

The systems are operating normally, the airline said, which apologized to customers affected by the computer attack. “Our goal is to prevent similar situations in the future, and to minimize the possible inconvenience this may cause,” Air Europa said in the same email, according to El País.
