At least 50 people were injured this Wednesday by an earthquake of magnitude 6.3 on the Richter scale that shook northwest Afghanistan, medical sources said.
“About 50 people were injured in the earthquake on Wednesday in different areas of the city of Herat,” a doctor at the Herat regional hospital told the Efe agency.
The shock was felt in the province of Herat, in the northwest of the country, where last weekend a series of earthquakes destroyed several villages, leaving a total of more than 4,500 victims.
Rescuers remain at the scene following Saturday’s devastating earthquakes, which killed more than 2,400 people.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) estimated that 12,110 people, including 1,730 families, were affected by Saturday’s earthquake in five districts of Herat province.
