Negotiations between Hollywood producers and actors have been suspended

Actors and officials for Hollywood studios suspended negotiations on Wednesday, which could mean a further delay in the resumption of film and series production. After long months of strikes, a statement was released this Thursday.

The announcement on the suspension of negotiations came after those responsible for studios and platforms such as Disney and Netflix met on Wednesday with representatives of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) union, which union defends. interests of 160 thousand actors, stuntmen, dancers and other film professionals.

But on Wednesday the studios, represented by the Association of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP), announced in a statement that the negotiation process had been halted.

“After serious discussions, it became clear that the gap between the positions of AMPTP and those of SAG-AFTRA is very wide, and these discussions are no longer moving us forward in a fruitful way,” it described.

AMPTP accused the actors of making excessive demands, including sharing revenue from the distribution of works on streaming platforms that would cost “more than $800 million per year.”

This is an “unsustainable financial burden” for the studios.

They also accused the SAG-AFTRA union of rejecting salary increases that had already been negotiated with screenwriters.

“We hope that SAG-AFTRA will reconsider its positions and return to negotiations quickly,” the Hollywood studios said.

Last month, AMTP reached a salary agreement with another company, that of Hollywood screenwriters, ending a strike that lasted almost five months.

Trade union SAG-AFTRA did not respond to the statements of the producers’ association.
