Hundreds of Hollywood celebrities signed an open letter this Friday condemning Hamas’ “barbaric acts of terrorism,” which killed more than a thousand Israelis in an unprecedented attack last weekend.
Actress Gal Gadot, of Israeli descent, is one of more than 700 signatories of the letter, including stars such as Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Pine, Michael Douglas and Jerry Seinfeld.
The letter, published by Creative Community For Peace, reads: “The Israelis’ nightmare became reality when Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israeli towns and villages.”
“Hamas killed and took hostage innocent men, women and children. They kidnapped and murdered babies and the elderly”the document continues.
“This is terrorism. It is wrong. There is no justification or rationalization for Hamas’ actions. These are barbaric acts of terror that must be denounced by everyone.”
Israel was surprised by the attack launched last Saturday by fighters from the Islamist movement Hamas, who kidnapped about 150 people.
In Israel, more than 1,200 people were killed in the attack, the deadliest since the establishment of the Israeli state 75 years ago.
In response, the Israeli army carried out aerial bombardments on the Gaza Strip, killing more than 1,400 people, according to local authorities.
The letter calls on entertainment industry stars to support Israel and “do everything in their power to urge the terrorist organization to release the innocent hostages.”
Many celebrities had already responded in a personal capacity on social media to denounce the Hamas attack.
