The CPI’s rapporteur on coups, Senator Eliziane Gama, of the PSD, asked in her report that 61 people, including civilians and military personnel, be held responsible for the January 8 vandalism demonstrations in Praça dos Três Poderes, in Brasilia.
Former President Jair Bolsonaro from PL is one of them and is accused of crimes such as criminal association, attempted violent abolition of the Democratic Constitutional State, attempted impeachment of a legitimately constituted government and use of measures to prevent the free exercise of political rights. .
Bolsonaro’s closest group – five former ministers and four former aides – are also on the list, as well as military personnel from the armed forces, such as the former commanders of the navy, Almir Garnier Santos, and the army, Marco Antônio Freire Gomes.
The final report was presented to the board on Tuesday morning (17) and the vote should take place tomorrow, Wednesday (18). To be approved, the more than 1,000-page document needs the votes of the majority of CPI members, consisting of deputies and senators, which must happen given the dominance of Planalto’s allies.
After the content of the text has been approved, it is sent to authorities who assess and decide whether to file a complaint based on it. The institutions to which the document is forwarded include police authorities, the Public Prosecution Service and the Office of the Federal Attorney General.
