The Israeli ambassador to Portugal, Dor Shapira, prefers not to comment for now on the attack on a hospital in the Gaza Strip that killed between 200 and 500 people, but remembers that in a scenario of war
Questioned by TSFDor Shapira says it is necessary to understand what happened, but admits it could have been an accident.
“The hospital may have been hit by a Hamas rocket that hit the wrong target. We are verifying what happened. I would not rush to jump to conclusions before the investigations.”
Dor Shapira reminds that Israel is a country at war and that accidents like these can occur, although that is not the objective of any of the parties.
“With all due respect, we are at war against terrorists (…) It is very complicated, because terrorists hide in the place of civilians. We always try to be very cautious and prevent people who are not involved in the war Sean “It’s threatened, but this is a war and things like this can happen. “It was like that when the United States fought against Al Qaeda in Iraq or NATO with the Taliban.”
“It’s unfortunate, it shouldn’t happen, we are doing what we can to minimize the impact on innocent people,” he adds.
The ambassador establishes “three objectives” in the conflict: guaranteeing Israel’s security, eliminating Hamas and rescuing the hostages, for which international pressure is necessary.
