Daniel Hagari, spokesman for the Israeli armed forces, assures that there is evidence that the attack on the Gaza hospital that caused the death of hundreds of people this Tuesday was the responsibility of Islamic Jihad and would have been an accident.
“According to our intelligence services, Hamas confirmed that it was an Islamic Jihad rocket that failed and they decided to launch a global campaign to hide what really happened,” the soldier said this Wednesday at a press conference.
Moments later, Israel’s Foreign Ministry released audio that it says was intercepted in Hamas communications. It is a conversation between two agents in which one of them reveals to the other that the Al-Ahli hospital was hit by an Islamic jihad rocket.

“It is the first time we have seen a missile fall in this way, that is why we say that the missile belongs to the Islamic Jihad,” says one of the Hamas soldiers.
“What? (…) Is it ours?” asks the other.
“It looks like it is.”
“They say the missile’s shrapnel is the same as local missiles and is not like Israeli shrapnel.”
“For God’s sake, couldn’t it have fallen somewhere else?”
“It was fired from the cemetery behind the hospital, missed and fell on them.”
The spokesman for the Israeli armed forces also accuses Hamas of “inflating the number of victims”, since Israel estimates that 200 people died in the hospital hit by a rocket, while the Palestinian side speaks of at least 500 dead.
