The Rolling Stones release new original album after 18 years

This Friday the Rolling Stones release their first album without drummer Charlie Watts. Eighteen years later, “Hackney Diamonds” marks the return of the rock band and offers fans original material with appearances from Elton John, Paul McCartney and Lady Gaga.

“It has a coherence as if everything had been recorded immediately. We have two songs recorded with Charlie, in 2019, but the rest was recorded quickly between December and January. It has energy, but there are other things too, it’s not fair bang bang”, says vocalist Mick Jagger.

Of the 23 songs recorded, 12 were chosen for the album, which also features the voices of Paul McCartney, Elton John and Lady Gaga: “We try to combine different styles in our way of seeing rock.”

“Hackney Diamonds” ends with a special song: “Rolling Stone Blues”, a reference to the 1950 Muddy Water song from which the band’s name was inspired.

After the album, maybe a tour, but the Rolling Stones promise honesty. It may seem easy, but the band recognizes the difficulty “of putting on a good show.”

“We are very proud of our work and the team works very hard,” notes guitarist Keith Richards.

Since the release of “A Bigger Bang” in 2005, the Rolling Stones have not released an original album. “Hackney Diamonds” is also the first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.
