Israel’s military spokesman announced this Saturday that the army plans to intensify attacks in the Gaza Strip in anticipation of the next phase of the war against Hamas.
“We will intensify attacks with the aim of minimizing the danger to our forces in the next phases of the war. We will increase attacks starting today,” spokesman Daniel Hagari said when asked about a possible ground invasion of Gaza.
Speaking to reporters, the Israeli army spokesman said his soldiers are trying to create “ideal conditions” in advance.
Hagari reiterated his call for Gaza residents to head south for safety.
This announcement comes on the day the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza was opened, and then closed, to allow the passage of trucks carrying humanitarian aid.
Only 20 trucks were authorized to enter, an amount that humanitarian organizations considered insufficient to face an unprecedented crisis.
More than 200 trucks with more than three thousand tons of humanitarian aid have been waiting for days for it to pass.
It is estimated that more than 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, half of whom are refugees, are rationing food and drinking contaminated water.
The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack in southern Israel on October 7 with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen, taking two hundred hostages.
In response, Israel declared war on Hamas, a movement that has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007 and is classified as terrorist by the European Union and the United States, bombing several of the group’s infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and imposing a total siege. to the territory with water, fuel and electricity supply cuts.
The conflict has already caused thousands of deaths and injuries, between soldiers and civilians, in both territories.
